About Rohit
Nearly 30 years in hospitality. Every one of them hands-on.
I'm Rohit Kaila — a hospitality operator, founder and consultant who has spent a career building, running and improving restaurants and hospitality businesses across the UK and beyond.
The long version
My career in hospitality spans nearly three decades, built on a foundation of genuine operational experience. After completing my degree in Hotel Management and Marketing, I moved into leadership roles that took me across the UK and internationally — including work with Michelin-starred restaurants and AA Rosette-awarded establishments.
For over 15 years I served as a Lead General Manager with Mitchells & Butlers, one of the UK's largest hospitality groups, where I mentored future leaders across both kitchen and front-of-house operations. I also served as a House of Excellence Leader, elevating operational standards across the business.
In 2021 I turned a lifelong dream into reality, founding The Cricket Lounge in North Cheam — a fine Indian dining restaurant that became the #1 rated Indian restaurant in Surrey on both Google and TripAdvisor within three years, and one of the Top 10 Indian Restaurants in London. I have since opened Baithak in Sutton, bringing the same commitment to authentic Indian cuisine and genuine hospitality to a second site.
I now work with hospitality businesses as a consultant, bringing the same direct, practical approach I have applied throughout my own career. I understand the pressure of running a real operation — the staffing challenges, the margin pressures, the gap between what a business could be and what it currently is. That is where I do my best work.
How I work
Operator, not just advisor
I have run real hospitality businesses — from high-volume operations to fine dining. When I give advice, it is grounded in what actually works on the floor, not just in theory.
Honest over comfortable
I will tell you what I see, not what you want to hear. Businesses hire me for a clear perspective, and that is what I deliver — with respect and without ego.
Commercially focused
Every recommendation I make is tied to profitability and sustainable performance. Operational improvement only matters if it moves the numbers.
People first
Great hospitality businesses are built on great teams. I place as much emphasis on leadership development and people management as I do on systems and processes.
"The best hospitality businesses are built by people who have stood on the floor and felt the pressure. That is the only perspective worth having."
Let's work together
If you are running a hospitality business and want a clear-eyed, experienced operator in your corner — I would love to hear from you.
